Quarry at the Family Farm, Minnesota

Thanksgiving 2013: We took a postprandial stroll through the quarry to stretch our legs, skirting frozen cow patties and jumping the fence. For over a century and a half, people have cut Kasota limestone from the quarry. My family has pastured cows there for nearly as long. We’ve wandered around the quarry throughout my childhood, found snow in July in deeply shaded crevices.
